Chief Kim

Chief-KimChief Kim also known as Good Manager is a workplace comedy. This is the first non-romantic Kdram I watched. Actually I was hoping that there’d be some romance, kahit slight lang. Haha! But on the later episodes, tama lang din na walang masyadong romance yung plot. It’s not the right feel.

Cha Tae Hyun was first offered the role and thank goodness he declined coz Namgoong Min is just perfect as Chief Kim. I saw Namgoong sa Beautiful Gong Shim and he was amazing there. Bagay sa kanya yung medyo comedic na mga characters, yung tipong tatanga-tanga pero sobra smart pala.

DaNKr5XSo dito, Chief Kim here is an accountant for a gangster. On the sideline, he was also embezzling from his boss. His boss threw him out coz medyo na-threaten sya sa authority ni Chief Kim over his people. So Chief Kim had to apply at TQ Group’s Business Operations department. His initial goal was to embezzle enough money for him to move abroad. Things got complicated as he became embroiled in office politics. He saw the corporate corruption and how it affected employees.

A month long hiatus

April showsIt’s been over a month! Work has been crazy, I didn’t have the energy to blog the past weeks. I’ve been depressed and uninspired. But that doesn’t necessarily mean I’ve also stopped watching Kdramas. The shows were my energy booster, thank goodness!

I’ve watched quite a lot but haven’t written anything. Which means I have tons to review/rant about plus the pending drafts still queued in my posts. So for the past few weeks I’ve watched the following:

  • I Need Romance 2
  • I Need Romance 3
  • Hwarang
  • Introverted Boss
  • Strong Woman Do Bong Soon
  • Chief Kim
  • Tomorrow With You

The ongoing shows I’m following:

  • Radiant Office
  • The Liar and His Lover
  • My Secret Romance

I watched two (2) movies just because it’s Kim Woo Bin and Ji Chang Wook:

  • Master
  • Fabricated City (I will have to rewatch this coz the subs were terrible.)

So yes, I’ve also been busy watching. Haha! The reviews might come slow because I would need to go re-watch some episodes while writing, just so I could get the feel of the show.

Definitely, I will be posting my thoughts in the next few days.

Beautiful Gong Shim

4917_BeautifulGongShim_Nowplay_SmallWhat I Think + Spoilers: So I’m running out of romantic comedies to watch. This is another one on my list that I’ve been putting off. Actually nasa first page ng most popular South Korean dramas sya sa KissAsian. The reason I did not dive in is that the synopsis did not catch my attention. I felt like it was going to be a competition between a beautiful and smart sister against a dumb and ugly one. And yes, Gong Shim, really looks stupid with that wig on however she’s not ugly at all. CkMZL5YUYAA2Lw4There’s actually reason for the wig. She suffers from hair loss because of stress. She’s got a bald spot and she covers that up with the wig. At the finale though, her hair grew and she also gained confidence in what she does best, drawing. 01

1420591107-93-orgWhat I Think + Spoilers: Another psychological romance for this month. Whew! This is a reunion of Park Seo-joon and Hwang Jung-eum from She Was Pretty. I loved them both from She Was Pretty although I had a slight SLS. I’m not much of a fan of psychological dramas (but I loved Cheese in a Trap for the reason that it was Park Hae-jin) but this was recommended by a good friend so I thought I should I give it a try.

fullsizephoto546886Oh Ri Jin (Hwang Jung-eum), a first-year psychiatric resident was adopted by Oh Ri On’s   (Park Seo-joon) family. They grew up as twins. Ri On is a writer who has been secretly digging Ri Jin’s past. Although Ri Jin knows that she’s adopted, she does not have any memory of her childhood. She however fears basements and fire.

unnamedWhat I Think + Spoilers: The JDrama that will jumpstart all the JDramas in my life. 😁😁 Can you imagine what a monk would be like if he’s in love? A cute monk at that! That was enough to get my attention. I’ve always thought of them like bishops who must remain unmarried.

5-ji-kara-9-ji-madeThis is a romcom, it’s heartwarming. The female lead, Junko, is an English tutor whose dream was to go to New York. While the male lead, Takane, is the upcoming Chief Priest who fell in love with her after she spilled ashes on his head during a memorial ceremony. The plot is not complicated. Spoiler – the main plot is just about getting the grandmother to approve her as the wife and lady of the temple. I never thought ingon ana diay kadaghang trabaho-on sa temple. Continue reading

4769_ShewasPretty_Nowplay_Small_v2What I Think + Spoilers: A romantic comedy with Choi Si-won and Park Seo-joon? I don’t need any other reason other than that. Haha! Actually this is the first I saw Park Seo-joon and Hwang Jung-eum together. But damn, ang pangit ng hair plus the freckles pa ha, ni Jung eum dito! Reminded me of her character sa Lucky Romance. Pero in fairness, this is super light na drama. Wala yung plot na may mga serial killer or someone killed someone in the family. That kind of stuff.

69238-363045This is merely a story about a boy and a girl who fell in love when they were kids and got separated. Fast forward to adult, the boy looked for the girl but the girl was too insecure to show up and had her pretty friend pretend to be her instead. Things were looking okay until the girl found out the the boy is her new boss. So yeah, it’s pretty fun.

But let’s get on with the spoilers!

b1e0ee05211d22b98b8d10475dae0e29Yeah, like the rest of my friends, you’ve prolly seen this one already. Me on the other hand, I’ve been putting this off for months now. I was one of the people who preferred Goblins over mermaids, sabay kasi sila ng air period. I’ve heard stories that it’s nice plus the fact that it’s Min-ho. I was a big fan until I met Chang-wook a few months back. I guess that’s why I wasn’t motivated enough to watch. And now that I’m running out of romantic comedies to watch, I figured I’d give this one a go. I don’t want to expect much, I’ll settle on the thought that this ended on a happy note.

3-5-2017-8-07-12-pmFor Min-ho, oh well, he’s handsome as ever plus he sang on episode 2. Man! This guy really, I’m actually curious sometimes kung nagpa-surgery sya or not. He just looks really perfect. Next to Chang-wook that is. Ha! But look at this Min-ho making pasta, the pasta does look yummy. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA Continue reading

My Love from the Star

What I Think + Spoilers: This was not my cup of tea. I thought the idea of an alien as handsome as Min-joon is weird so I had a hard time. This is the only Korean drama that I did not binge watch. I would have stopped watching however my curiosity got the best of me. I wanted to know how they’re going to end the story though I knew it’s going to have happy ending. I did learn that there are five stages of grief – anger, denial, bargaining, depression and acceptance, and that girls move on faster than boys.

40-you-who-came-from-the-stars-fashion-review-gianna-jun-ji-hyunI don’t like Song-yi’s character here. She’s so loud and arrogant, not a character that you can really fall in love with. She talks too much too. But she’s very pretty.

lee_hee_kyungBut I’m here once again because of Park Hae-jin. Ha! His older brother Jae-kyung is the antagonist here, a serial killer. I’ve read a review somewhere that Hee-kyung (played by Park Hae-jin) however is even worse. I kept dreading the part where he would turn really bad. But it was fair. When he let his father listened to the recording where Hee-kyung killed their older brother, I thought that was just right. Hee-kyung killed too many people and he deserved what he got in the end.

Plot: Straight-laced and emotionally numb rich-guy Shen An, a CEO of Shen Corporation, a food conglomerate, keeps having unlucky run-ins with Meng Chu Xia, a clumsy, soft-hearted but stubborn 28-year-old who’s raising her nephew Meng Xiang by herself. Park Hae-jin in (from My Love from the Star and Cheese in the Trap) plays the male lead, which will give you that Kdrama rom-com feeling. This drama has the same tone and similar structure as those archetypal K-rom-coms: Lots of funny, cute and screwball-ish parts in the first half of the series, while later episodes add emotional depth and drama. Plus an excellent ending.

What I Think + Spoilers: So after watching Cheese in the Trap, I followed Park Hae-jin to China. Haha! Chinese dramas tend to drag on, you have to get used to it I guess. I’ve only seen 3 so far but all of them, the female lead had amazing friends and showed what kind of friendship they have. Some scenes also dealt with struggles of single parenting. Got me thinking if I will also have the same problems in the future.

Cheese in The Trap

4747_cheeseinthetrap_nowplay_small1The feels. Sorry but I love both main and the second lead on this one. Jung’s looks against In Ho’s personality, I just can’t make a decision. LOL! Anyhow, it took me such a long time to get to watch this one coz there were a lot of negative comments about the ending and I’m not much for sad endings (Uncontrollably Fond is an exemption).

BWY4L4RNSXQB88MWBDJ5_1024x0Cheese in the Trap is from a webtoon of the same title. They’re also doing a movie this year but they’re replacing Eun Tak with another actress. Apparently, the webtoon is not done yet the writers had to improvise. Before I watched the whole thing, I cheated and skipped to the ending then I also looked up the webtoon. I wanted to make sure I will be okay with the ending before spending hours on it. So here’s what I think;
